MEET CEDRIC

Cedric C. M. Bond is a known and trusted appellate advocate and advisor, bringing a depth of federal trial and appellate experience to the Pemberton Law Group. Publicly he is known for his insightful legal commentary on legal writing, federal courts, and appellate advocacy on LinkedIn.
To colleagues and clients, however, he is known as a strategic, thoughtful, and tenacious advocate who is always ready to handle the most difficult and thorny legal issues. From mid-trial legal questions to building whole-of-case litigation strategies, Cedric has been a go-to player within the United States Attorney’s Office. When the United States Attorney's Office needed someone to represent some federal judges in civil proceedings, they called Cedric.
Cedric understands how courts think. He began his career as a term staff attorney with the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, working on over 130 appeals. And in law school he served as an intern to an Oklahoma Supreme Court justice and as a research assistant to former Tenth Circuit Chief Judge Robert H. Henry, assisting him with appellate consulting work.
After leaving the Eighth Circuit, Cedric joined a litigation boutique, representing plaintiffs in consumer and data breach class actions in federal courts across the country—from the Southern District of New York to the Southern District of California. While there, he originated multiple cases that resulted in substantial class recoveries and attorneys fee awards.
Then in 2020, Cedric joined the United States Department of Justice as an Attorney Advisor with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Because his office was inside a federal prison, Cedric became a sworn law enforcement officer, graduating from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia as an Honor Graduate. Inside the institution, Cedric quickly earned the respect and trust of officers and wardens alike, with one captain dubbing him “Custody’s lawyer” because of how willing Cedric was to jump in to assist whenever an institutional emergency required it.
As an advocate, Cedric defended the United States and BOP staff in a wide range of matters both administrative and in court. The subject matters ran the gambit of correctional institution defense, including premises liability, medical malpractice, civil rights and conditions of confinement, Rehabilitation Act, Religious Freedom and Restoration Act, and various kinds of habeas corpus proceedings.
His area of responsibility included prisons within the Eastern District of Arkansas, Eastern District of Texas, and Western District of Oklahoma, but he worked with DOJ attorneys across the country. And due to his can-do attitude and legal expertise, Cedric was asked to take over complex cases that arose outside his assigned area, including matters in the Northern District of Texas and the Middle District of Florida.
When the opportunity arose to join the United States Attorney’s Office, however, Cedric jumped at it. First as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, prosecuting prison-related crimes and taking them to trial, and then as a full time Assistant United States Attorney. As a federal prosecutor, Cedric oversaw the office’s eDiscovery practices and served as a valued member of the Criminal Appellate team. In that role, Cedric argued multiple cases before the Tenth Circuit and mooted arguments for every case argued in the office during his tenure.
Cedric is a transplant to Oklahoma, originally hailing from Tacoma, Washington before moving to Oklahoma City to train as a sprint kayaker at the world-famous Boathouse District. As a member of TeamUSA, Cedric raced kayaks all over the world, including Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, and Russia.
Cedric is a partner at the Pemberton Law Group, where he focuses on appellate litigation in state and federal courts. He likes nothing better than honing winning arguments in the briefs and fielding questions from an active panel at oral argument. And as your advocate, he will bring you the same expertise and dedication that allowed him to represent the United States as an advocate in court and as an athlete on the world stage.
